For about twenty years, two persons by the name of Arthur Golden lived in Brookline, Massachusetts, USA. The other Arthur Golden still lives in Brookline and is the author of "Memoirs of a Geisha" - this Arthur Golden moved to Israel on March 13, 1996 and now lives in the Har Nof neighborhood of Jerusalem, Israel, with his wife Marsha and 30 year-old son Ben (who is well-known within the ultraorthodox Jewish community as a nonverbal adult with autism who uses Facilitated Communication to convey spiritual messages). The other Arthur Golden does not seem to have a presence on the Internet - this Arthur Golden (hereafter, only this Arthur Golden is discussed) started to post to the Internet in 1997, mostly about autism and Facilitated Communication, usually through the e-mail address of golden@shani.net

Arthur Golden - Biography

Arthur Golden was born on October 25, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland USA. He graduated Northwood High School in Silver Spring, Maryland in 1964, received a Bachelor of Science in Economics (majoring in accounting) from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1968, and received a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1971. Arthur Golden married Marsha Mae Nerenberg of Boston, Massachusetts on July 12, 1970, and they have three children - the oldest is their son Benjamin Ethan Golden (also known as "Ben" or "Binyamin") born January 30, 1972 (who is well-known within the ultraorthodox Jewish community as a nonverbal adult with autism who uses Facilitated Communication to convey spiritual messages). Before their marriage, Arthur and Marsha both became followers of the "Bostoner Rebbe" (Grand Rabbi Levi Y. Horowitz) who performed their wedding ceremony on July 12, 1970 and then they regularly attended religious services at his congregation Beth Pinchas in Brookline, Massachusetts (an urban town located right next to the city of Boston) until they moved to Israel on March 13, 1996. Initially living in the town of Zichron Yaakov (where Ben moved in August 1994 to start the Pisgat Yehuda program), they moved in July 1999 to the Har Nof neighborhood of Jerusalem, Israel (where the Pisgat Yehuda program moved in January 2000), where they now regularly attend religious services at Congregation Givat Pinchas of the Bostoner Rebbe. Both Arthur and Marsha have always been involved in various Jewish community activities, now mostly within the "ultraorthodox" Jewish community.

Upon graduating Harvard Law School in 1971, Arthur Golden joined the tax department of the Boston office of the "Big 8" CPA firm of Coopers & Lybrand, becoming a tax manager after three years. Due to the increasing time demands of the special needs of his son Ben, Arthur Golden decided in August 1976 to set up his own law practice which continued until he moved out of Massachusetts in 1996. Through his son Ben, Arthur Golden became involved in advocating for children and later adults with special needs, both within the Jewish community but also the general community locally and worldwide.
